Songs and Sonnets from Shakespeare by George Shearing is the featured work at the next Barnby Singing Day on Saturday 15 February 2020 at Wilmslow Methodist Church. This is a delightful set of vocal works using the text of various Shakespearean songs and sonnets set to music in Shearing’s inimitable, slightly jazzy style. All are arranged for four-part mixed chorus, some a cappella, others accompanied by piano and double-bass. As always, the Barnby Singing Day aims to give singers the chance to try a work which is not in the standard repertoire and, as always, we expect it to be great fun!
We are delighted that the day will be led once again by Keith Orrell, who has presided over so many successful Barnby Singing Days. He will be joined once again by accompanist Robert Woods and, for the first time, by bass player Sophie Sully.
The day will follow the usual pattern, as outlined below, and as always there will be book and cake stalls to tempt you! The cost is unchanged at £20 for the day (£5 for students) including morning coffee, afternoon tea and music hire. A light lunch of soup and a roll (£4) plus tea and cake (£1) will be available. All profits from the sale of soup will go to Wilmslow Wells for Africa.
At the end of the day friends and family are warmly invited to join us for an informal performance. No charge, but donations gratefully received!
