Christmas season 2018
Our Christmas events began on 1 December with our annual visit to St Mary’s, Nether Alderley, in support of their Christmas Fair. Many visitors came to hear and join in with the carol-singing, and during the interval we were generously rewarded with Christmas refreshments and a chance to visit the Fair. Many thanks to the Rector and all at St Mary’s for the warm welcome we always receive there.
On Sunday 9 December, we were delighted to welcome a capacity audience to the United Reformed Church in Wilmslow for our Christmas concert. The first half featured the uplifting, operatic Messa di Gloria by Puccini, and that was followed after the interval by a range of carols, old and new – many of them sung with enthusiasm by our audience! Our thanks to them for their participation, and to our soloists for the evening – Paul Smy, tenor and Alistair Ollerenshaw baritone – and our accompanist on the organ, Elin Rees, for their superb contribution.
Once again, shortly before Christmas, a number of members visited Oakmere residential home in Handforth, where we had a very enjoyable afternoon with residents singing carols and Christmas music, directed and accompanied by Doug Macdonald on keyboard. It’s always a pleasure to chat to residents over a cup of tea at the end, and we thank them and the staff for making us so welcome.
We are already well into our spring season and look forward to welcoming the usual large numbers to our Singing Day with Keith Orrell on 9 February. There are still some places available: book now!
