Spring and summer concerts 2017
We were very pleased to welcome a large and appreciative audience to St Michael’s Church, Bramhall on Saturday 11 March for our spring concert. The programme opened with a joyful piece by Homilius, Ein hoher Tag kömmt, and this was followed by Mozart’s delightful Exsultate Jubilate, given a sparkling rendition by soprano Eleanor Garside. The second half was devoted to Haydn’s majestic Missa Cellensis (St Cecilia Mass).
Our warmest thanks to Eleanor and our other excellent soloists: Kate Symonds-Joy, mezzo-soprano, Guy Withers, tenor and Alistair Ollerenshaw, bass, and to the members of the Cheshire Sinfonia, leader Louise Latham, who provided such accomplished accompaniment.
A few weeks later, another enthusiastic audience turned out for our summer concert on Saturday 13 May at St Bartholomew’s Church, Wilmslow. This featured in the first half two rousing works by Parry – I Was Glad and Blest Pair of Sirens – interspersed with Brahms’s charming Liebeslieder Waltzes, or Songs of Love.
Our versatile conductor Lloyd and his wife Stephenie Leung opened the second half with a piano duet arrangement of Elgar’s lovely Serenade for Strings, and the choir then performed Bob Chilcott’s exciting choral cantata, Songs and Cries of London town, ably accompanied by Stephenie and her colleague Angela Mi Young Lim on piano, and by percussionist Andrea Vogler. Sincere thanks to all our soloists for their wonderful contribution to what was a brilliant season finale!
