Final concert of our 80th Anniversary Season
Our 80th Anniversary season closed with Elgar’s The Music Makers and In Windsor Forest by Vaughan Williams. One audience member commented ‘The Music Makers came over wonderfully well with its beautiful pianissimo opening through all its varied colours and moods.’
In contrast, and in recognition of the 80th ‘oak’ anniversary, In Windsor Forest gave the choir the opportunity to sing a folk-like style. With rousing choruses and tender movements in addition to tongue twisting challenges, the choir rose to the occasion! Our merry men particularly revelled in the Drinking Song!
We were delighted to welcome back mezzo-soprano Helen Gregory as our soloist for the evening. Her very accomplished and sensitive singing of the Elgar was especially praised as was her lovely rich voice.
Our talented accompanist Mackenzie Paget entertained us with a short piano recital with works from Handel, Brahms, Kabalevsky and Gershwin.
