First concert in our 80th Anniversary season’
The first concert in our 80th Anniversary season was enthusiastically received by a packed house at Wilmslow’s URC. With orchestral accompaniment from Musica Nova, it began with Beethoven’s Hallelujah from his oratorio Christ on the Mount of Olives; this joyous choral piece raised the roof and was enjoyed by choir and audience alike.
This was followed by Robert D. Levin’s completion of Mozart’s Mass in C minor (The Great Mass). Whilst challenging in parts, the Barnby’s performance was hailed as a triumph, with the audience commenting on a ‘superb concert which was spiritually uplifting’, that ‘the Kyrie was electric’ and Lloyd’s favourite ‘Mozart would have been proud of you all’. Our soloists, sopranos Eleonor Garside and Kirsty McLean, tenor Michael Vincent Jones and bass Simon Grange, were superb.
Mozart composed the piece to be sung by two choirs and Lloyd conducted us all with aplomb creating a wall of sound which was uplifting. A great start to our celebratory season.
