Summer Concert

An appreciative audience attended the choir’s summer concert at Wilmslow URC in May to mark the end of the current season.

Fauré’s Requiem was sung with power and emotion. A peaceful stillness fell around the church when it ended which was spellbinding. The audience remarked on the spine-tingling effect produced by the beautiful harmonies and felt that the concert was a wonderful performance for which the choir should feel proud.
Following the interval, there was a change of style with Ola Gjeilo’s Luminous Night of the Soul, which had featured at The Barnby Choir’s Singing Day in 2024. The choir produced a moving and stirring performance. The concert ended with Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs; Lloyd commented that it was sung with energy, contrasting with lyrical singing in the inner movements.

We were delighted to be joined by two talented soloists, Siân Davies (soprano) and Aidan Edwards (baritone). Accompaniment was provided by Tom on the organ and Shirley Richards, Clare Carey, Susan Williamson, Rebecca Whittam and Sara Banks who formed a superb string quintet. Lloyd felt the additional colour brought by the strings lifted all the music. Our thanks go to them all for their roles in making it such a memorable and enjoyable concert.
