We were delighted to welcome a large audience to our spring concert on Saturday 10 March at St Michael’s Church, Bramhall, featuring in the first half the Bach cantata Bringet dem Herrn and Mozart’s Mass in C, with soloists Hannah Boxall, soprano; Rhiain Taylor, mezzo-soprano; Sebastian Maclaine, tenor; and Thomas Hopkinson, bass.
This was followed after the interval by the premiere of the Missa Fidelis by our conductor Lloyd Buck. Lloyd had written a first version of the work while still at school, but had revised it for performance by the Barnby Choir. At the end of the concert, to mark the occasion, Barnby Chairman Dave Tonks presented Lloyd with a bound volume of the score as a gift from the Choir.
Our accompaniment for the evening was provided by the accomplished musicians of Musica Nova, leader Jem Bradley, and Graham Eccles on organ. Our thanks to them and to all our soloists for their outstanding contribution to a unique occasion, and of course to our enthusiastic audience.
Our summer concert took place on Saturday 19 May at Wilmslow United Reformed Church and featured a wide range of choral items including Fauré’s Cantique de Jean Racine, Goodall’s Psalm 23 (The Vicar of Dibley), and Eric Whitacre’s Lux Aurumque.
The concert also included vocal and instrumental solos from choir members Richard Fletcher, Gillian Harding and Claire Underwood, and from Elin Rees, who was also our organ accompanist for the evening. These went down very well with the audience! Special thanks to all our soloists and to our loyal and supportive audience for the vital part they played in helping us to bring our season to such an enjoyable close.
