Singing Day
The Singing Day was a tremendous success with almost 40 singers from near and far joining together to rehearse and perform the three pieces chosen and led by our good friend Keith Orrell. Keith is the Musical Director of the William Byrd Singers and the Liverpool Welsh Choral, and choral director of the Pennine Spring Music Festival. His enthusiasm and expertise enabled the assembled choir to perform Keith’s own dramatic composition The Sacrifice, and Ola Gjeilo’s moving compositions The Ground and Luminous Night of the Soul. We were treated to the accompaniment of Tom Pieczora and a string quartet. The singers thoroughly enjoyed singing these impressive pieces with their beautiful melodies and meaningful lyrics. The audience feedback was positive with some moved to tears and many keen to explore the composers’ works.
